Kepping it organized

If your friends are anything like me and my friends; they should have their own particular "party schedule". It's a good idea because with the all the events going on at the same time, it’s kind of hard to keep things straight. I myself admit I've actually showed up at the wrong party, on the wrong day, at the wrong venue.

And it seems to me, everyone has there own way of organizing there schedule. From the simple excel spread sheet, to Google calendar. The one above is my favorite one, it's my friend Gabe's creative illustration of his party agenda. Thumbs way up.

Some tips for your WMC schedules:

• Always be on the look out, things change frwquently when it comes to the parties down here, things get moved, cancelled, venue and line up changes are not a rare occurance.
  
• Don't over plan and be anal about it. Keep some space open for the unexcpected.
  
• You don't have to pencil it in but do plan on: resting, bathing and eating. Sounds so basic, but people do tend to go multiple days with out doing all of the above.
  
• If your going to space or any of the bigger venues, read the fine print on your tickets there's usually a cut off time. So DO plan on getting there before that time, or you can kiss your ticket goodbye.

Still Open - Traktor SCI-TEC WMC DJ Competition

Today venerable techno spinner Dubfire has launched a DJ competition for his Traktor-sponsored SCI-TEC party at Miami’s forthcoming WMC.

“Every year I struggle to find a DJ to play the opener of my party as the guys I book I normally want to showcase at the peak hours,” Ali Shirazinia aka Dubfire told me. “So I want to give a SCI-TEC fan the chance to open the room and showcase their talents, in the hopes that maybe it will inspire them to pursue a career in music.”

1. Contestants must submit a 30-minute, mixed DJ set [in 128kbps MP3 format] recorded on the industry’s premier DJ software, Traktor, and uploaded to: filistics.com/contest.html

2. There is a limited window for submitting mixes: 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM, US Eastern Standard Time [EST] on March 13th.

3. The winner will be required to play their set using Traktor.

4. The winner will be responsible for all travel and accommodation costs relating to being in Miami for WMC.

WMC 2009 Travel Tips

• Carry cash for cab, but dont carry all your cash at the same time you be tempted to spend it all if your anything like me.
• Buy presale tickets, you can save big time. Clubs here are abusive at the door, some tickets can be up to double the price.
• If your planing on renting a car DON'T. If your staying in the South Beach area transportation is easy. In South Beach all the hotels and clubs are with in walking distance. Moving From downtown to the beach if fairly inexpensive, also. Especially if your sharing a cab its only a couple of bucks per person. Parking on south beach is a headache.
  
• If your traveling by yourself and you need a ride from the airport to South Beach DO NOT take a cab, take the Super Shuttle its half the price for the same service. Also if your staying at a higher end hotel check with the hotel to see if they offer free shuttle service to and from the airport. If your traveling in a group of 5 or more people ask for limo prices they might actually be better deal per person than a cab or a shuttle.
  
• This has happened to a bunch of people I know. YOU LOSE YOUR ID/WALLET! What do you do, don't freak out. If you don't have a spare ID and you lose your wallet file a police report & cancel all cards. There's a police station on Washington and 11th. The police basically give you a piece of paper saying you've lost your wallet and your over 21. You may have an issue getting into places it mostly depends on the bouncers mood. They may feel sorry for you and let you in, or your second best bet is try and bribe your way in. I try to always carry two picture IDs with me when I travel. I keep one in the the carry-on which travels with me, and one I keep on me. If I lose the my wallet, I still have one ID to prove I'm over age.
