DEMF Weekend Afterparty Recommendations

With so many afterparties listed on movementafterparties.com, do you know how to pick and choose which ones to go to? Are you wishing you had a clone? I've been in this position before and it's kinda overwhelming, especially if it's your first year going to Detroit during Movement festival.

Here are my recommendations; parties I'm really looking forward to, parties guaranteed to have great TECHNO and the ones that are just hard to pass up because they're what Detroit techno is all about: celebrating its sound, its talent and its roots.

Friday May 25th

Bang Tech 12 Sixteenth Anniversary Party @ Bookies Bar & Grill
2208 Cass Ave, Detroit. 3pm - 2 am
Our friends from the Detroit Techno Militia are throwing their annual anniversary party for their booking agency Bang Tech 12 to start the DEMF weekend in style: with some no-bullshit techno. With a huge lineup of DJs (a lot of Detroit locals and it also includes several names from states like Ohio, Indiana, Florida and Tennessee), this friendly bunch makes it even more friendly: it's free. If you have seen Seoul and Linder at the festival in 2010 or the DTM 5x5 last year, you know the Militia won't fuck around.
You can find more info about the Bang Tech party HERE.

Smart Bar Movement Opening BBQ @ TV Bar
2548 Grand River Ave, Detroit. 10 pm - 4 am
Chicago's Smart Bar is bringing in Detroit exclusives Prosumer and Orchard Lounge to play with Kate Simko along with local Detroit talent. I'm recommending this, well, because Prosumer is playing and he is not to be missed.
Info & tickets HERE.

Saturday May 26th

CLR @ Elysium Lounge
625 Shelby St, Detroit. 10 pm - 4 am
Chris Liebing. Speedy J. Tommy Four Seven. Drumcell. If these names alone don't get a reaction from you, there's something wrong with you.
Info & tickets HERE.

Beretta Music: Ten Years of Techno @ The Works
1846 Michigan Ave, Detroit. 10 pm - 6 am
Detroit label Beretta Music is celebrating their ten-year anniversary in style with names like Aril Brikha, Reference (Luke Hess & Brian Kage), Omar-S and Ryan Crosson. Plus you can't go wrong with anything Detroit-based when there.

Soul Skate 2012 @ Northland Roller Skating Center
22311 W8 Mile Road, Detroit. 11 pm - 5 am
Kenny Dixon Jr's (aka Moodymann) annual roller skating party is always fun. Seriously, techno and skating? SOLD.

Sunday May 27th

KMS 25 - Tribute to Detroit @ St Andrew's Hall
431 East Congress St, Detroit. 10 pm - 4 am
Kevin Saunderson put together what that looks to be the most anticipated party for the weekend. With all four creators of techno on one stage PLUS Ben Sims and Carl Craig's 69 live show, the lineup also includes Detroit Techno allstars like Blake Baxter, Stacey Pullen, Buzz Goree, Mike Huckaby and Kenny Larkin just to name a few to be spread out in three floors. This one is the NOT-TO-BE-MISSED party.
Tickets and info HERE.

Interface 36 - Scene 04 @ The Works
1846 Michigan Ave, Detroit. 10 pm - 7 am
Blank Code and Droid are teaming up to have some of the most serious techno this weekend. With acts like DVS1, Cell Injection (Drumcell + Audio Injection), Raiz, Luis Flores, Kyle Geiger and Project 313, this is the go-to party for the deeper, harder techno heads. Do not miss Corbin Davis! Got a chance to check him out this past weekend and he blew my mind.
Info HERE.

Shit Show 3 @ Waterfalls
673 Franklin Street, Detroit. 7 am - 7 pm
They're back for their third year of non-stop debauchery. Lineup includes Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Ryan Crosson, Daniel Bell, Deetron and Three, among many others.

Monday May 28th

Need I Say More VII @ Old Miami
3930 Cass Ave, Detroit. 7 am - 7 pm
What to say about this party? Presented by Visionquest, this has always been the highlight of DEMF weekend. Lineup is not announced, there are no presales (you pay at the door, $10 all day) and it's guaranteed to have great talent. Maya Jane Coles and D'Julz are said to play according from their tour dates. Get there early, it gets PACKED. Expect long lines.

Movement Official Closing Party @ Elysium Lounge
625 Shelby St, Detroit. 11 pm.
The official closing party presented by Paxahau will have Marco Carola on decks all night. It's free with a VIP wristband, otherwise it's $5 at the door. Yes, you got it right: Marco Carola for $5. Enough said. Usually the closing party ends around 3 am.

Midnight Jack @ The Works
1846 Michigan Ave, Detroit. 10 pm - 5 am
Buzz Goree is presenting his Mixworks 11-year anniversary with a label showcase that includes some of the best talent from Detroit. Rolando, Tim Baker & HD Substance as District 909, Dru Ruiz and of course, Buzz Goree will all be playing. Also one of our NY boys, Craft (Daniele Ciocio) will be sharing the decks with such inspiring Detroit artists. Craft has become one of the top up-and-coming artists from New York City and has an upcoming vinyl EP release on Mixworks which includes a remix by Mr Goree. Make sure you check him out!
