Voyage Royale IV

Last week, Danny Tenaglia surprised his fans with his "resignation", announcing that his birthday @ Pacha NYC would be his final gig for an indefinite period of time. A few days later he said that previous commitments would be kept, stating that his absolutely final gig before his temporary retirement would be a 6-hour set on a boat in Detroit for DEMF weekend. This left everyone with expectations for the announcement and sale of tickets for the Movement boat party.

Paxahau announced a couple of hours ago via Facebook invite the boat party; Voyage Royale IV, teaming up with BPM to bring you Danny Tenaglia, Art Department and DJ Sneak aboard the Detroit Princess. It will be held as always on Sunday night after the festival. First release tickets are on sale for $60 and you can find them HERE.

DEMF Weekend Afterparties

With a bit less than two months to go for Movement (and immediately after WMC), afterparties are starting to get announced for Memorial Day weekend and I'm giddy with excitement. Those that know me know I'm GLUED to several sites and message boards since around February every year to find out what is going on as soon as parties are announced. I put together a list of everything that goes on in Detroit during Movement weekend that I share on a message board with everyone; it's my thing. I even include some suggestions and tips for the DEMF first-timers. I book my hotel in December or January just to make sure I get the best options. This is my Techno Christmas.

Of all the afterparties announced so far, I have to say that the one I'm the most excited about is Interface 36 / Scene 04, a collaboration between Blank Code and Droid Behavior taking place on Sunday May 27th at The Works. The lineup is stellar, including Droid artists Drumcell and Audio Injection playing together as Cell Injection, the Vargas brothers also known as Raiz, DVS1, Luis Flores from Mexico (who recently wowed me with his CLR podcast a couple of months ago) and Kyle Geiger along with many Blank Code regulars. I am also glad to see Jeff Derringer in the lineup, who is the resident DJ and one of the masterminds behind Oktave, a monthly party in Chicago and NYC bringing a deeper and more abstract flavor of techno. Tickets are on sale and very limited at blankcode.com/tickets. You can find more info on the event here: www.facebook.com/events/184754594970881/

Techno favorites Chris Liebing and company are hosting a CLR showcase in Detroit for the second year in a row at Elysium on Saturday the 26th. Lineup includes Chris Liebing & Speedy J (Collabs), Tommy Four Seven and Drumcell, with more names to be announced. Early bird tickets are on sale on RA: www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?357705

Gary Springs Hunting Club is back this year with the third edition of Shit Show, taking place at a new venue, Waterfalls, on Sunday the 27th from 7 am until 7 pm. This year they have teamed up with the 'As You Like It' crew from San Francisco. Their lineup includes Detroit exclusives Kollektiv Trumstrasse (who I highly recommend catching) and Rich Korach. Ryan Crosson, DJ Three plus more to be announced. Tickets can be found here: http://www.clubtix.com/shit-show-3-tickets-107426

Burning Man LEGO Set

An Instant Theme Camp in a Box

Simon Pearce and Mary Elise Chavez created this Burning Man LEGO Set, a fake LEGO product that is an “instant theme camp in a box” featuring a mini version of the Spacecats’ Hammock Hangout camp.

We were sad when we got no tickets this year, so we decided to create a mini-burn out of legos! Then it got out of hand…

Check out the amazing details:

Gary Springs Hunting Club Speaks Out - DPD FAIL!

Matt Abott of Detroit's famed GSHC speaks out on abusive behavior of the Detroit police towards dance music events. He goes on to say, "So when are you (speaking to the Metro Times Detroit's Facebookpage) going to finally to on the complete harassment of the DPD and the total abuse of power towards all dance parties in this City? I think it's an issue that needs to be discussed considering it takes 5 hours for a police officer top show up if i call them in an emergency, yet 20 cops come to Jumbos, a legal establishment at 2:02 AM on a Friday night and hearten to beat up its patron and find every way to find anything illegal going on, which they did not. It's a waste of tax payers money to say the least, and keeping away people coming to our city to spend money to have a good time, all to go back to the suburbs with a bad taste in their mouth. Its a sad stat. We all know its "easy money" for them to come raid an event of usually 200 - 400 people, with 20+ DPD deep, to issue about 5 or 6 MIP tickets, but this is ridiculous. We have major crime and corruption in this city then to be worrying about arts and things that that are actually trying to make this city a better environment for young people."

Not surprisingly the Metro Times did not answer his post and soon after deleted from their Facebook page. Hundreds show support for GSHC via likes, shares and comments (over 400 and counting).

HEY DPD. GO FUCK YOURSELF. even we we do something completely legal, you still try. we all know that you have nothing better to do in detroit then to try and bust a legal party at a bar that stopped at 2am. i know you fucking dickwads are reading this. F U C K Y O U D P D. so sorry that your bust at a bar didnt work out for you, thanks for wasting the tax dollars that we pay you. you fucking DICKHEADS

5 Days of ADE

Amsterdam Dance Event announces 2012 dates, adds fifth day

The seventeenth edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), the international conference and festival for electronic music, will take place from the 17th to the 21st of October, 2012. After selling out for the last five years, the ADE is regarded as one of the highlights of the annual international dance and electronic music calendar. Thanks to the fact of being both a major festival of electronic music as well as a business platform for the international music industry, the event is widely considered to be an important indicator of the health of the electronic music scene.

Event organiser the Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation expects that the five day event will once again attract more than 140,000 festival-goers and 3,000 conference delegates from 62 countries. "Two years ago we included the Wednesday in order to accommodate a growing list of conferences and parties, and in 2012 - because there are now so many events throughout the whole of the weekend - Sunday is now officially included in the ADE dates,” Richard Zijlma, ADE Director, said. The 2011 Sunday schedule included amongst others Visionquest at Trouw, Moon Harbour & secretsundaze, Wicked Jazz Sounds and the Melkweg After Party.

ADE 2012 will also feature expanded versions of the ADE University (aimed at inspiring and educating students and young music industry professionals) and ADE Playground (showcasing technology and technological innovation), both of which were introduced in 2011 to widespread acclaim, as well as improvements and new developments for the Hard Dance Event (HDE), Music and Bits and ADE Next.

Each year 3,000+ artists, A&R managers, journalists, label representatives, booking agents, producers and music publishers from around the world gather in Amsterdam to do business, network, discover new talent and keep up to date on the latest technological and legislative developments. The 140,000+ festival visitors - including approximately 30,000 tourists - fill the city's venues for a wide range of shows and events featuring the very best national and international artists. The 2011 edition of the ADE staged a record 220 events in 52 venues across the city, with a total of over 800 DJs and acts performing.

The Amsterdam Dance Event 2012 will take place on October 17 to 21. More information is available at www.amsterdam-dance-event.nl

The Amsterdam Dance Event is organized by the Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation, an initiative of Buma.
