But all these extra people didn't add to the experience. They sort of watered it down. The crowd this year felt awkward..."

This I couldn't agree with this more! It's wonderful see all the young new faces, curious and interested in the music, but unlike a couple of years again (when I last attended), I never feel the crowd was swept up in an overwhelming, transporting vibe that carried me/us to that "other place" away from the normal and mundane! There were so many new schoolers being initiated that the old school vibe definitely felt watered down. It was almost as though rather than diving deep into the old school vibe, a lot of the young new comers dove into the candy kid bath and never left the shallow end. And whether candied out or not, a lot of people failed to realize that they needed to let the music seep inside of them and put their bodies and souls into motion!

"One of the few saving graces, as with every year, was getting to see all my techno brothers and sisters from across the country. More and more these days, the importance of going to Detroit has become reconnecting with these vastly-dispersed friends, as opposed to just the music."

This has been my M.O. for coming back to Detroit for many years now. After starting in the Detroit scene 15 years ago and branching out across the international divides over these years, these festivals are the gathering point for the techno diaspora, many who have become family from our shared passion and experiences. More than the music, it's those heartfelt, soul felt hugs from those friends that are forever burned into my memory and make the festival worthwhile and help it garner the overall experience in Detroit as being "awesome!"Troynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5633975655945619453.post-91399182940430149532010-06-03T10:28:11.492-04:002010-06-03T10:28:11.492-04:00I always call it the "real detroit" stag...I always call it the "real detroit" stage for some reason. thanks for the correction :)beemahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08811105307907361131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5633975655945619453.post-35391434094713418712010-06-03T00:54:33.659-04:002010-06-03T00:54:33.659-04:00You can thank Auralex for the sound quality at the...You can thank Auralex for the sound quality at the Detroit stage, which was the "Made In Detroit" stage and not the "Real Detroit" stage.
Auralex was a sponsor. Did you notice all the acoustic baffles hanging from the ceiling, and checkered on the walls?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
